Bengali Masoor Daal
Bengali masoor daal, great dinner meal recipe for you to enjoy !
Red lentils
Coriander powder
Ground turmeric
Salt, onions
Garlic
Ginger
Chopped tomatoes (fresh or tinned).
Measure a handful of red lentils per person into a lidded saucepan or pressure cooker.
For 4 people, add 1 heaped teaspoon of coriander powder, half a teaspoon of turmeric and a teaspoon of salt.
Add enough water to cover by an inch.
Either pressure cook for 10 mins, or bring to boil and then simmer for 30 mins.
Meanwhile, fry a sliched onion, 2-3 sliced garlic cloves and a thumb sized piece of finely chopped ginger. Use ghee, butter or sunflower or coconut oil.
When the onion is softened, and if using butter based medium slightly brown at the edges, add a chopped tomato (tinned or fresh).
Add the whole lot of fried things to the lentils and mix well.
Adjust seasoning.
Serve with simple boiled rice, If feeling decadent and you can have dairy, a knob of butter and a glug of cream can be added.
